A few years ago, Ben started a tradition of going on a family adventure every Saturday. The kids love that they get to have a turn choosing. For Ben's choice, last Saturday we went to the BYU Museum of Art to see an exhibit by Dan Steinhilber. Ben turned the activity into a "Fetch with Ruff Ruffman" spin-off. The kids had to pick their favorite piece, write why it was art to them and then draw a picture of it. I didn't bring my camera so I'll have to paint a picture for you with my words (and a posted link.)
Six year old Justin sitting in the middle of the exhibit floor, in front of a huge art piece covering the wall. His notebook in front of him as he draws and stares thoughtfully at the art. It was priceless! Then security came and told him he couldn't sit on the floor. They did offer to get him a stool to sit on- which he accepted.

Fun idea! My kids think Fetch with Ruff Ruffman is the greatest show on television.

Now I really want to take our kids to see this exhibit. Great idea for really getting the kids to think about the artwork. We may have to steal that idea as well. ;)
ReplyDeletemy girls & i miss the family adventures with the larsons! we really need to start here. we had an impromptu adventure on Sat. we took the girls to the great falls in the town over (it was gorgeous, frozen on top and flowing underneath the ice). it was rather cold (about 20 degrees), but we had fun. then we went to see a castle! i promise i'll post it soon...
